In Their Own Words

In their own words

How do tobacco executives live with themselves? Especially once you read the sinister words they spew behind closed doors. The following come from documents obtained from major tobacco companies.

We don't smoke. We just sell it. We reserve the right to smoke for the young, the poor, the black and the stupid.
They got lips? We want them.
If children don't like to be in a smoky room, they'll leave. At some point, they begin to crawl.
What do you think smokers would do if they didn't smoke? You get pleasure from it, and you get some other beneficial things such as relief. Maybe you'd beat your wife.
Long after adolescent preoccupation with self-image has subsided, the cigarette will even preempt food in times of scarcity on the smoker's priority list.
Today's teenager is tomorrow's potential regular customer, and the overwhelming majority of smokers first begin to smoke while still in their teens...the smoking patterns of teenagers are particularly important to philip morris
The fragile, developing self-image of the young person needs all the support and enhancement it can get. Smoking may appear to enhance that self-image.
Tobacco is in the same family as potatoes when it comes to cancer. You inhale the fumes of potatoes when you're cooking them.

The tobacco industry doesn’t care about you, your lungs or your life -- and their own words prove it.
